Lauren Elkin is a PhD candidate in the English department at the City University of New York Graduate Center and the Université de Paris VII. She is writing her dissertation on the performativity of femininity in late modernist British and French literature and photography, and has written and published on Virginia Woolf, DH Lawrence, Djuna Barnes, and Claude Cahun. Her research interests include the history of the novel, cultural studies, urban studies and the development of the modern city, transvestism and prostitues. She lives in Paris where she is currently preparing the agrégation d'anglais.
